New Mats for the MMA Warehouse!

Here in Galveston, TX we have been working hard to build a Mixed Martial Arts gym to fit the Island. We have been working with a little less than 1,000 sqft of mats. But after today the gym has upgraded to 1,600 sqft  of mat space. This new addition to the gym will let us open up the schedule and add more classes.

Take a look at the new mats!!!

This is just the beginning of the transformation. To the left we have the squat rack, bench, treadmill and about 400lbs of weights! This MMA gym is coming along slowly but surely. Everyday we add something new to the gym and it is starting to look nice! The 9,000 sqft facility will be the biggest and best place to train here on the Island.

Michael's Blue Belt Promotion at Galveston MMA

This was the first but not last promotion here at Galveston Mixed Martial Arts. Michael Harmeling has been a dedicated student coming to classes five to six times a week for the past six months. He works a full time job and has a family that backs him 100%. His wife Sabrina Harmeling and daughter Isabella Harmeling are at all the classes to show support. Their family has everything it takes to become future champions.

We are very happy and excited to have this family here at Galveston MMA. This is just the beginning to a long successful journey for both the Harmeling family and Galveston BJJ. Congrats to Michael and his family for all the hard work and dedication.

New Years MMA 2012 Galveston Texas!!!

This year Galveston MMA and CSI: Combat Sports Institute closed out the 2011 Mixed Martial Arts Season with a BANG!!

We had two fighters stepping into the cage. Chase Eastham was up first. This was his first MMA event. He has done a couple of BJJ and Wrestling tournaments. Now he wanted to step into the cage to fight.

Chase and Opponent

First round was Muay Thai Kickboxing.
Second round was Muay Thai Kickboxing with Take Downs.
Third Round was Mixed Martial Arts.

Chase was able to go in there and fight hard. His combos looked clean and fast for the first round. The second round he took a couple of knees to the mid section. Chase slowed down a little after that and his opponent was able to squeeze out the victory. Overall it was a good showing for the young fighter.

Ralph Garcia was up next. Ralph's fighter backed out at the last minute but they were able to find someone to fight in his place. Luckily they found someone on last notice to fight. This was going to be a Muay Thai Kickboxing fight but at last minute they changed it to Mixed Martial Arts. That was not a problem for Ralph. The Galveston MMA fighter was able to go in and take care of business. The Ref had to stop the fight in under one minute. Ralph Garcia was able to take his opponent down early in the first round and finish with strikes!

Congrats to both fighters for going in there and putting it on the line. They both fought hard!!! Not everyone got what they wanted but it was still a good showing for the two CSI: Combat Sports Institute Fighters!
